(Associate) Technical Scientist - Antibody Discovery Platform

argenx

Ghent, Belgium

We are currently looking for an (associate) technical scientist or senior research associate with demonstrated working experience in antibody discovery via phage display to join our dynamic R&D team at argenx, where we strive to innovate and deliver groundbreaking medicines to patients.

In this lab-based role, you will apply your knowledge and hands-on experience in the SIMPLE™ Ab platform technologies, e.g. phage display, to support, train, guide and troubleshoot during the early phases of antibody discovery in close collaboration with our R&D project teams. In addition to bringing your knowledge and expertise to the project teams, you will be responsible to identify and evaluate innovative methods in the area of antibody discovery & phage display, assess their suitability for argenx and implement these methods sustainably into argenx’ workflow. As such, the function requires both hands-on time in the lab (≥50%) as well as dedicated time to browse (patent) literature and interact with internal and external (e.g., vendors, CROs, external experts) stakeholders to continue to build and extend our expertise.

The candidate should have an inherent drive to generate qualitative results in close collaboration with the internal project teams. This all happens in a dynamic, informal and stimulating environment where you and your colleagues work to reach the set goals and continuously innovate along the way.

Responsibilities

  • Support the argenx project teams to discover therapeutic antibodies via phage display by providing hands-on support, training and advice in experiment design and troubleshooting;
  • Oversee and follow up on projects executed by external partners, ensuring timely and successful delivery;
  • Optimize phagedisplay-related workflows, methods and tools and provide qualitative hands-on trainings to the project teams;
  • Can find a solution to any unexpected problem in a creative way;
  • Pro-actively scout for and implement innovative technologies in the antibody discovery workflow, and ensure their implementation by the project teams by providing supporting materials and trainings;
  • Take initiative and actively seek feedback from different stakeholders;
  • Act as the go-to person for the project teams for day-to-day support;
  • Organize work and understand priorities in order to complete assignments accordingly;
  • Write qualitative protocols and reports.

Profile

  • Education: MSc or PhD with demonstrated, deep expertise in and hands-on experience with antibody discovery, phage display and molecular biology.
  • Experience:
    • Experience in an industrial setting or regular industry interaction is required;
    • Experience with antibody engineering is a plus.
  • Hands-on: Highly motivated to work in the lab, proactive mindset;
  • Team player: motivated, enthusiastic, reliable, collaborative and supportive mindset, respectful, effective communication skills;
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in written and spoken English.
