R&D Director

For our multidisciplinary, highly-motivated R&D team we are currently searching for a PhD chemist as Director (m/f/d) with longstanding experience in research, for the development of new contact lens materials and lens care products.

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience and knowledge in polymer science, structure-property-process relationships, and characterization techniques. The Director will be responsible for technically overseeing the chemical development processes from concept to commercialization, ensuring that the products meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Demonstrating scientific leadership by applying scientific/technical expertise and setting standards for the lens materials and chemical processes related scientific work, ensuring the quality and integrity of the research outputs;
  • Developing concepts and proposing approach to address identified ophthalmic medical device/science/technology need;
  • Developing new materials based on in-depth understanding in both material technology and production process;
  • Participating in sub-teams, use deep technical/scientific knowledge to advise and contribute to all function strategies and goals;
  • Assisting management of project activities, support/coach and laterally lead scientists, researchers, and technicians, foster a collaborative and innovative culture but no formal disciplinary management tasks;
  • Working closely with internal production or external vendors to scale-up new products;
  • Providing answers to ad hoc questions and demonstrating an in-depth understanding of structure-property-process relationship in polymers, specifically the relationship between molecular architecture, morphology, and bulk properties;
  • Developing an external network of research partners and collaborators to complement internal competencies in the above-mentioned research areas. Actively monitoring patent and scientific literature for significant technical developments relevant to eye care products.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Material Sciences or related field is required with min. 10 years of post-graduated experience;
  • Experience in Polymer synthesis and Characterization is highly preferred;
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English;
  • Prior experience working in medical device field and regulated laboratory setting per GLP/GDP requirements is preferred.
