Your mission

Pierre Fabre is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Biochemistry to join the Oncology Drug Discovery group and support discovery efforts for targets in research programs.

The qualified candidate will have relevant and notable experience in the pharmaceutical industry with expertise in designing, executing and interpreting enzyme and binding assays using biochemical and biophysical techniques.

The candidate will be responsible for overseeing all biochemistry/biophysics activities, managing a team of talented scientists.

The candidate will be an integral part of a fast-paced research team with responsibility for interacting with cross-functional scientific groups to progress drug discovery programs from target validation to candidate nomination and clinical development.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide in-depth biochemical/biophysical characterization of discovery targets, establish robust assays to support medicinal chemistry efforts in developing structure-activity relationships;
  • In collaboration with cross-functional project teams, propose, design, and implement biophysical or biochemical assays/experiments for compound interaction analysis (protein-small molecule and protein-protein interactions) in support for target enablement, hit ID, hit to lead and lead optimization activities;
  • Effectively analyze, interpret and communicate biochemical/biophysical data as a subject matter expert and biochemistry/biophysics representative on project teams;
  • Lead and manage the Biochemistry team, ensuring high-quality research. Develop and mentor direct staff;
  • Work effectively in collaboration with internal team and external partners (collaboration, CROs);
  • Represent project team(s) by presenting project updates to management team at internal meetings and preparing technical reports and presentations for both internal and external presentation;
  • Contribute to the development of scientific strategy across discovery programs and therapeutic targets;
  • Propose and evaluate new approaches and technologies;
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, and ethical standards in all research activities.

Who you are?

Qualifications

  • PhD in Biochemistry, biophysics or related discipline;
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in biotech/pharma industry with at least 3 years in a leadership role;
  • Expertise on protein biochemistry (including protein purification) and biophysics;
  • Working knowledge on adjacent disciplines (structural biology and chemistry);
  • Strong knowledge of biochemical/biophysical methods and theory with proven hands-on expertise applying biochemistry/biophysics for the characterization of small molecules inhibitors, protein-ligand binding and protein-protein interactions;
  • Experience with integrated application of a broad array of biophysical or biochemical methods for structure-based drug discovery projects performed internally and in collaboration with external partners (CRO, partnerships);
  • Proven track record of managing a successful research team and delivering high-quality results;
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to foster collaboration and work effectively in a team-oriented environment;
  • Experience in oncology is a plus.
