What you’ll do
We’re looking for a Senior Fermentation Scientist to lead scale-up efforts for our innovative bioprocesses. In this role, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the scale-up of fermentation processes from lab to commercial scale, and you will be instrumental in leading our plant start-up process later this year together with our Site Lead and Engineering Project Delivery Lead. You’ll contribute your expertise to process development, technology transfer, and the operational readiness of our plant, ensuring a smooth and efficient transition to large-scale production. This is a hands-on role that requires technical leadership in scale-up processes and plant start-up.
Responsibilities
- Lead the scale-up of fermentation processes from our lab to our first commercial scale manufacturing plant;
- Ensure smooth technology transfer translating laboratory procedures into full-scale Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for plant operations;
- Lead the commissioning of our plant in Q4 2025 together with our engineering team, ensuring all fermentation processes are codified and optimized, ready for full-scale industrial operations;
- Design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and present findings to drive process understanding and optimization;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to ensure seamless scale-up and plant commissioning.
Job requirements
About you:
- 5+ years of hands-on industrial fermentation experience;
- MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field;
- Extensive experience in scaling up fermentation processes from lab to full commercial scale, with a proven track record in plant start-up experience;
- Expertise in running fermentations at various scales, with a focus on commercial-scale bioreactors;
- Strong ability to interpret scientific data and a solid understanding of statistical analysis;
- Excellent communicator, able to translate complex data into actionable decisions and effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders;
- An open-mind and and a positive mindset to achieve results as a team;
- A sense of urgency and a get-sh*t-done attitude.
