We are looking for a Research Scientist who is highly motivated, curious and meticulous to join us in our Antibody Production team, based in our Slough office in Berkshire, UK.

About the role

As a laboratory-based research scientist, you will be responsible for aspects in the delivery of high-quality biologics and related analytical and sample logistics data. You will therefore contribute to the progression of molecules from the earliest stages of drug discovery all the way to drug candidate.

You will work with a team of antibody experts within a diverse, engaged and scientifically vibrant team all working towards the same goal.

What you’ll do

  • Cell culture, cell stock maintenance and related transfections in support of delivery of high-quality antibodies to support advancement of therapeutic antibody projects;
  • Communicate reagent status with key stakeholders such as team and project leaders and by use of electronic sample management and lab notebook systems;
  • Generate, analyse, interrogate, and interpret data to identify unexpected results, record cell densities and viability, and follow product yield and quality;
  • Communicate data through project presentations and written reports;
  • Document protocols and data in electronic laboratory notebooks and internal biological registration system;
  • Innovate or identify and implement new and relevant technologies for capacity or technology expansion;
  • Refine cell culture techniques and build skill set in the field of recombinant antibody production...

Interested?

For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills:

  • A BSc graduate with a demonstrable knowledge of and experience with proteins and antibodies (MSc / PhD or industrial experience in a relevant biological discipline may be advantageous);
  • Experienced in recombinant antibody/protein production from mammalian cells (e.g. transfection, cell culture, quantification determination) and aseptic technique;
  • Practical experience of plasmid DNA expansion and/or stable gene integration techniques are an advantage;
  • Knowledge of purification techniques and analytical assays is beneficial (e.g. Affinity chromatography, IEX, HIC, SEC, AKTA, HPLC, SDS-PAGE);
  • An understanding of antibodies, their structures, functions and biophysical characteristics would be advantageous;
  • Experience with electronic lab notebooks and other relevant software is beneficial (e.g. GeneData, Empower, Chemstations, Sequencher);
  • A team player – derives personal energy from being an integral part of a dynamic, busy and multi-skilled team;
  • Strong personal ethics, a drive to deliver and the ability to multi-task and thrive in an exciting and changing research environment. You will be the kind of person who ‘wants to get the job done’;
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills;
