Position Information:

Evotec is recruiting a Director of Business Development to join our Business Development team. In this role, the candidate will report to the Vice President (VP) of Business Development based in the UK. The candidate will support the VP Business Development by evaluating and establishing strategic partnerships in Western Europe . The successful candidate will join Evotec’s Business Development Team commercializing Evotec’s assets and technologies and creating high impact and high value strategic R&D partnerships.

Responsibilities:

Business Development is a key role for Evotec. The selected individual will be part of the European BD team and will undertake business development activities within the territory. The Director / Senior Director of Business Development will regularly interface with the Scientific Operation Teams, Therapeutic Area leads, Alliance Management, and Senior Management. This position is at the epicentre of Evotec’s evolving R&D Partnership landscape and the successful candidate will be critical in helping identify, evaluate, and translate opportunities in the marketplace. Candidates must be able to create both short-term and long-term value establishing mutually beneficial relationships with Partners. The individual should have experience and understand the requirements and challenges of drug discovery and development. This position will focus on the partnering of Evotec’s integrated discovery capabilities.

Mission:

  • Work with the VP of Business Development to drive the overall business development strategy within the territory
  • To further establish Evotec as the partner of choice within the territory
  • Grow new business revenue with existing Partners and establish new business relationships within the region
  • Secure and retain business for Evotec through professional, consultative, pro-active activities directed at decision-makers and decision influencers at new Partners
  • Position Evotec as a primary or preferred provider for all discovery and development services with a focus on supporting Evotec’s discovery services
  • Interact with scientific operations and marketing to close new business and develop long-term relationships
  • Interact positively and collaboratively with the global business development team

Key Competencies and Characteristics:

  • A deep understanding of the drug discovery and development continuum; with a strong preference for greater expertise in drug discovery
  • Experience negotiating complex deals including research funding, milestones and royalties, or equity
  • Experience working with and leading cross-functional teams to drive creative solutions
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Demonstrated network within large pharma, biotech, and venture capitalists
  • Ability to assess partner needs and craft recommendations through effective written and oral presentations
  • Superior and demonstrated account management and successful track-record in structuring, negotiating and executing deals with various life science Partners
  • Analytical skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data and produce reports and documents to support closing arguments.
  • Ability to identify leads, assess the value of new business/product opportunities and close deals
  • Solid technical background coupled with professional business development experience

Qualifications:

  • Minimum BSc, MSc or PhD preferable, in a Life Sciences discipline
  • Preference for 5-10 years technical experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech or management consulting company and at least 5 years proven successful business development experience
  • Demonstrated record of success in business development including large and complex partnership and/or licensing transactions
  • Demonstrable understanding of the drug discovery and development process
