At Ferring we are building a new, global organisation for External Innovation & Scientific Licensing headed by the VP Declan Jones. We aim to optimise Ferring’s access to new drugs from discovery to clinical proof-of-concept for the benefit of patients worldwide. That is why we need you to join our global team. You will be based at Ferring International PharmaScience Center in Copenhagen reporting to Morten Persson, Director, External Innovation & Scientific Licensing.

Identify in-licensing opportunities, innovative delivery systems and novel drug discovery programs

Basically, your job is to enhance Ferring’s ability to access new drugs from discovery to clinical proof-of-concept – to support our pipeline of novel drug candidates designed to make people live better lives. You will focus on reproductive medicines & maternal health, uro-oncology, and gastroenterology with an interest in targeting the immune system and/or microbiome across all focus areas.

As part of a growing team of highly skilled Scientists in the Global External Innovation team, you will work with internal Drug Discovery Scientists and Therapeutic Area Heads to identify partnering opportunities and create partnerships with biotech companies, universities, charities and other funding bodies to access medical innovations intended for global markets. Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for global product in-licensing in our core target areas;
  • Conduct in-depth landscape analyses through networking and on-site visits;
  • Participate in academic and technical conferences to promote Ferring as the partner of choice;
  • Build your network of relationships with innovation leaders in academia, hospitals, governmental institutions, charities, venture capital firms and biotech industry;
  • Build networks in the global Ferring organisation to promote and ensure in-depth understanding of the innovation strategy;
  • Contribute to the building of strong matrix teams of internal and external experts to drive both the scientific and business aspects of opportunity evaluation and transaction;
  • Coordinate scouting activities with existing outreach activities across the team and Global R&D;
  • Work with commercial colleagues (e.g. R&D Finance and Global IP) to build business cases for the targeted innovation licensing or acquisition;
  • Facilitate communications between internal stakeholders and external partners.

Ambitious PhD with 5+ years’ of drug discovery experience.

We are looking for a highly ambitious profile with the energy level and dedication it takes to aim for world-class in every case. It is very important, that you like to create results as part of a team, and that you can handle ambiguity and make business critical decisions without knowing the full picture. Additionally, your CV comprises:

  • Advanced Degree (PhD in Life Sciences), ideally in immunology or other areas related to our discovery strategy;
  • 5+ years’ of drug discovery experience from the pharma industry and/or biotech;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing drug discovery and early stage candidate drug projects with evidence of successful outcomes;
  • Strategic thinking in combination with understanding science and technologies and their impact on the overall business;
  • Experience with external R&D, partnering and/or business development;
  • Excellent networking ability in cross-cultural environment inside and outside Ferring. Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills;
  • Fluency in English, written and spoken;
  • Ability to travel for up to 25-30% of your time to meet colleagues and partners all over the world.
