Reporting to the Senior Director Operations EMEA, the Plant Manager plans, directs, organizes, coordinates and controls through functional managers the optimum deployment and utilization of the human, financial and physical resources of the Castlebar & Swinford plant operations in the manufacture of products of the highest quality and value, whilst pursuing a high level of customer satisfaction.

He/She is a visionary leader with overall responsibility for Manufacturing, Environmental, Health & Safety, Quality, Service and Productivity.

The Plant Manager is responsible for implementing the Quality policy, procedures and GMP in accordance with Corporate requirements.

He/She, as the Manager with Executive Responsibility will establish and maintain with the Head of Quality an internal quality assessment system in an appropriate GMP environment.

The Plant Manager will achieve these imperatives within the framework of the Baxter Shared Values and Corporate Business Ethics.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly and through subordinate and matrix management structures, is responsible for directing the development, planning, implementation, and maintenance of manufacturing methods, processes and operations for new or existing products and technologies;
  • Leads and Manages cross functional teams to ensure clarity on job roles, objectives and direction;
  • Responsible for the outgoing quality, safety and efficacy of all finished product, compliance with all applicable specifications, Standard Operating Procedures, MOH regulations (GMP's) and New Drug Applications;
  • Ensures budgets, schedules, and performance requirements are met;
  • Improves product quality and cost and reduces customer complaints through a proactive program that includes interaction with internal and external suppliers. Utilises collected data from customers to enhance perceived product quality;
  • Adheres to all environmental, health and safety SOP's, equipment, policies and procedures, including any department specific requirements;
  • Propose and devise strategies from the data gathered to support the Manufacturing Operating System;
  • Responsible for resolving complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors;
  • Must execute judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results;
  • Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers;
  • Sustains a clean and safe work area using 6S principles;
  • Learn, understand and applies rigorous quality standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP);
  • Ensures employee understanding of and conformance to established policies and practices by providing timely training;
  • Monitors and tracks major activity and develops programs and processes that will allow for continuous quality improvements;
  • Define and drive continuous improvement programmes (EMS) across all Castlebar & Swinford teams, through processes, systems and people while seeking to continuously reduce costs through VIP, VSM, VAVE and Six Sigma programmes;
  • Provides feedback, learning and development plans for team members;
  • Establishes and monitors KPI’s for both Castlebar & Swinford plants in line with business standards;
  • Defines and implements processes to meet the business needs ensuring alignment to European and Corporate direction;
  • Participates in manufacturing strategy led initiatives in the evaluation process for future development projects across multiple geographies;
  • Interacts through program updates and reviews with all levels of management across multiple geographies;
  • Responsible for Shipping & Distribution of temperature controlled products through the manufacturing process to final mile delivery;
  • Responsible to deliver world class Logistics service & capability for the shipment & delivery of time and temperature sensitive finished products;
  • Maintains and develops clear operating procedures to ensure warehouse & distribution scalability and agility to ensure continuously meet the needs of patients;
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Preferable Engineering/Science Degree with Masters level education;
  • Minimum 10 years production/engineering experience, with at least 3 years of proven senior management experience, in a complex pharmaceutical environment;
  • International experience in a culturally diverse environment would be an advantage.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong independent leadership ability with a track record of innovation, performance enhancement, and change management;
  • Knowledge of employment law as applied in a mature unionised workplace (e.g. collective agreements/bargaining, fair dismissal/harassment/maternity provisions etc.);
  • Strong Financial and Business acumen - budgetary control and information systems associated with manufacturing;
  • Deep experiential knowledge of EuGMP and MOH/Regulatory expectations, trends and challenges;
  • Proven commitment to the application of the highest standards of Environmental, Health & Safety standards;
  • Product life cycle experience encompassing knowledge of drug development and launch through manufacturing incubation to sustaining product initiatives;
  • Highly developed communication skills (verbal, written, listening, influencing, report writing);
  • Experience and proven ability in managing people and tasks, coaching, influencing, motivating and development training;
  • Ability to deal with conflict, to effectively prioritise and to manage ambiguity;
  • Align to Baxter’s Leadership competencies.
