Summary

Responsible for leading operations across multiple plants in the EMEA Operations network, with direct reporting line into VP Operations, Chronic & Acute Renal. Is accountable for the plants’ delivery on employee safety, product quality, operational compliance and plant financial metrics. Establish manufacturing strategy for plants, including material sourcing, capacity, cost reduction, logistics, and quality improvement. Establish and drive manufacturing strategy for solutions plants to insure delivery of manufactured products and inter-plant services that meet safety, quality, cost and on-time delivery goals in support of associated business objectives. Assess talent at the sites and actively coach and hold accountable site leaders to develop and move talent to support growing business needs and address talent deficiencies swiftly. Hold leaders accountable for planning, organizing and controlling the manufacturing and support activities at the site to produce quality products on time and competitively in compliance with regulatory requirements. Drive manufacturing standardization and process improvements to achieve network optimization, responsible for ongoing cost reduction, global logistics, and improvement of product quality

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding plant financial goals and key operating performance targets on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis;
  • Responsible for plants’ compliance with all regulatory policies;
  • Responsible for recruiting, selecting and motivating site leaders to lead the various aspects of the operation. Assess, develop and manage top talent to engage and retain team members and meet business objectives. Assess key strengths and skill gaps of the talent pipeline. Lead, motivate and coach direct reports to do the same
  • Establish operation mechanism with direct reports related to operational performance monthly and coach to take proactive actions and take action to address any misses. Drive necessary communication mechanisms to insure senior leadership is informed of both leading and lagging performance and plant to address;
  • Interact regularly with senior management on matters concerning the business, portfolio life cycle management and/or customers;
  • Liaise with operations function leaders as necessary to address escalated matters and drive for results;
  • Coach direct reports to create and sustain a culture within the plant to maintain compliance with Environment, Health & Safety requirements and a zero-harm workplace;
  • Coach direct reports to develop and own three-year site capital plan and drive execution to support ongoing business as well as expansion opportunities, own and inform others of roll-up plan for all sites and drive for results;
  • Coach direct reports to drive continuous improvement, ongoing improvement of quality and cost reduction. Drive identification of Continuous Improvement opportunities;
  • Drive execution of CAPEX needs to support business as well as expansion opportunities: CAPEX. Include reference to; Robust project planning with high financial planning accuracy; On time, on budget execution;
  • Lead strategic efforts on operations planning. Directly responsible for oversight and direction for operations area;
  • Partner with commercial team on developing portfolio life cycle management program. Close alignment to commercial business units to ensure understanding and operations input to business strategy and execution Liaise with R&D to create new product development plans and ensure adequate support of NPD program to achieve target launch dates;
  • Benchmarking. Internally within Baxter network and externally.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Science, Engineering, Supply Chain or related field required. Graduate degree (MBA) preferred;
  • 10+ years manufacturing management experience in a GMP environment (or equivalent). Experience in complex assembly processes (manual and automated assembly);
  • Experience with both domestic and international manufacturing sites, including new plant start-ups or expansions required;
  • Ability to travel;
  • Willingness to relocate (relocation within region at a minimum).

  • Must exhibit mature leadership and successful execution in a complex operational environment. Strong situational leadership skills;
  • Proven track record of interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to interface well with other departments, and lead effectively and efficiently in a team environment;
  • Must have ability to make proper trade-offs to balance operational execution across production, quality, safety, customer delivery and financial metrics;
  • Will be required to report operational performance monthly and take actions to address misses. Must establish communication operation mechanism to keep senior leadership informed of both leading and lagging performance and act to address;
  • Ability to manage programs across technical, commercial and operationalgroups’ successful launches of new products, product changes and other growth plans for the business;
  • Requires the ability to change the thinking of or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations;
  • Proven track record of assessing, developing and managing talent to benefit professional growth and meet business objectives;
  • Operating knowledge of various functions within the plant and lean manufacturing, green or black belt certification preferred;
  • Ability to travel extensively with potential for extended periods;
  • Experience in regulated medical drugs and devices environments, high volume manufacturing of fluid-based products, plastics manufacturing, biologics/chemical manufacturing processes a plus;
  • Demonstrated success performing within a large, matrixed, global manufacturing organization required;
  • Assessing, developing and managing talent to benefit professional growth and meet business objectives (required);
  • Managing financial metrics, P&L and cost reduction (required);
