Overview

Reporting to Director, Medical Operations, the Associate Director, Medical Operations CEMEA will partner with VP, Regional Head of CEMEA Medical Affairs to provide planning and operational support to medical affairs activities across all therapeutic areas in the CEMEA region. The successful candidate will collaborate with expertise areas within global medical affairs as well as business planning, procurement, legal and compliance to ensure effective execution of regional medical plans.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with Global Medical Affairs Leaders (GMALs), country medical teams, and cross-functional partners to develop medical operations plans across all therapeutic areas in the CEMEA region;
  • Provide operational support to medical affairs initiatives, including but not limited to launch readiness, advisory boards, medical roundtables, scientific exchange visits, and medical dashboards;
  • Partner with Medical Affairs Leadership Team (MALT) to track key milestones versus CEMEA medical plans, evaluate team effectiveness and operational excellence, including sharing best practices and coordinating resource needs;
  • Facilitate compliant and timely review and decision on unsolicited requests from the CEMEA region for medical and patient education grants;
  • Partner with country teams (medical leads and country GMs) to support engagement with patient advocacy groups in the CEMEA region to address local needs and aligned with global patient advocacy engagement strategy;
  • Partner with EMT, CEMEA medical team, and other stakeholders to support Alnylam’s expanded access program and coordinate compliant transition of patients post launch;
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure compliant documentation of relevant medical activities and support medical affairs team to facilitate audits and inspections in the CEMEA region;
  • Collaborate with MALT to design and implement team building activities such as leadership offsite;
  • Partner with CEMEA medical teams to develop appropriate guidance documents (policies, operating guidelines, and SOPs) to ensure compliant and flawless execution of medical activities in the region, including, but not limited to needs assessments, fair market value evaluation, addressing gaps in process with appropriate EAs (i.e. compliance, legal, and regulatory).

Requirements

The Associate Director, Medical Operations will be part of a very active team within a dynamic, fast-paced, high-profile biotechnology company. The successful candidate will possess the following capabilities and characteristics.

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences required. Advanced degree preferred;
  • 4+ years of demonstrated professional knowledge and skills in the biopharmaceutical industry;
  • Knowledge and understanding of laws, regulations and industry codes;
  • Innovative and strategic thinking;
  • High degree of professionalism, maturity, and confidentiality;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills and attention to details;
  • Demonstrated reputation as a well-respected, dynamic team player;
  • Proven planning and organizational skills with experience managing multiple priorities;
  • Ability to prioritize in a shifting environment with a sense of urgency;
  • Ability to follow established processes and challenge the status quo, as needed;
  • Travel will be required (~25%).
