Biologics Manufacturing Strategy Director

We are curerntly sourcing a high calibre leader to join our team in the role of Manufacturing Strategy Director (Biologics). This position is key to the continued success of our Biologics business and is an amazing career opportunity!

In this high profile role, you wil drive assessment and definition of emerging strategic programs in AbbVie Biologics Manufacturing. These strategic programs include options for capacity expansion, cost optimization, and pipeline commercialization.

In addition, you will evaluate emerging trends, customer needs, and business opportunities with input from key internal and external stakeholders; recommend actions that support long term and short term business objectives; facilitate executive decision-making and guide implementation of approved programs in partnership with cross-functional leaders in sites, regions, and global headquarters.

Some of your key duties will be:

  • Actively participate in strategic planning discussions and identify opportunities to meet network capacity demands over the long range plan and beyond. Define plans that consider current network commitments, ensuring assurance of supply through partnership with Program Managers and Site Directors across the global network;
  • Identify innovative approaches to address capacity and cost optimization across the network through a strong understanding of competitors and suppliers. Gain buy-in from executive leadership to leverage relevant concepts; lead definition of clear plans and measures to drive these initiatives across Biologics manufacturing locations;
  • Evaluate internal practices in partnership with Site and functional leaders; integrate areas for optimization and increased performance to future recommendations;
  • Provide financial assessment and justification for recommendations and represent these in the financial planning process; 
  • Ensure all recommendations have clear performance measures to meet strategic objectives over the long range plan;

  • Build recommendations and plans that enable full compliance with regulations, including good manufacturing practices (GMP), governmental regulations, and Abbvie policies including quality and EHS;
  • Present to Senior Operations leadership proposed plans, options and actions to achieve results. As needed, provide strategic updates and identify how plans should adjust given changes in the business and marketplace. Define how these changes impact short and long range planning as needed during the planning process.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • 15+years’ experience as a Manufacturing Operations Leader including: relevant scientific technical expertise, progressively increased responsibility as supervisor, department manager and leader of diverse teams in multiple areas of operations( Manufacturing, Quality, Supply chain , Engineering etc);
  • External network and understanding of the competitive landscape required to identify best practices for consideration and innovation internally;
  • Well versed in GMP, quality standards and operating requirements in highly regulated environments (Pharma, biotech, or related industries);
  • Experienced project management skills in highly complex, matrix organizations;
  • Business acumen and financial planning/budgeting experience required;
  • VPs of Manufacturing, Engineering, EHS, Quality, and Supply Chain;
  • Site Leaders across the Biologics Network and Supply Chain function;
  • Manufacturing and Supply Chain program management;
  • Function leaders in regional headquarters (Dublin, Ireland and Puerto Rico) and global headquarters (Chicago).
