POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are looking for a highly motivated immunologist to join our team of scientists and contribute towards the development of novel biotherapeutics, focusing on human immunology and assay development. This is a research-based role, working to discover therapeutics for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. Individuals must bring technical skills, enthusiasm and provide a positive addition to company culture. Our dream candidate will have immune cell assay experience, including tissue culture of primary immune cells, cell line engineering and expertise in multi-colour flow cytometry. They may have experience in biotech or pharma, with familiarity of pre-clinical screening and the development of therapeutics, ideally biologics. Strong scientific credentials, ability to troubleshoot creatively and work effectively with other scientists to deliver clear conclusions is required.

We are looking for someone who is scientifically curious, and ready to make an impact in an exciting new therapeutic space. This position also provides an opportunity to work closely with highly diverse and collaborative groups, both internally and externally, to support the delivery of R&D programs at Gilead.

EXAMPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather, analyse, and present scientific data from a variety of sources;
  • Generate relevant hypotheses and design novel experiments;
  • Rigorous benchwork and data analysis. Perform a range of techniques to a high-level of delivery (including but not limited to immune cell isolation and culture, flow cytometry, binding assays, cell death assays, internalisation and Incucyte live cell analysis);
  • Document research findings clearly in an electronic lab book;
  • Demonstrate scientific rigour in assessing own data and that of others;
  • Clear communication with other members of the team and presentation of research findings with colleagues internally and in partner institutions;
  • Contribute to project discussions and in wider project planning, including ideas for new research projects;
  • Maintain high level of expertise through review of scientific literature. Serve as a major contributor in preparation of manuscripts and patent applications;
  • Collaborate with internal teams, as well as external experts, CROs and academic groups, to leverage opportunities, establish best practices, and deliver innovation.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • PhD, or equivalent experience, in immunology or related discipline;
  • A good understanding of human disease pathology and the process of translational research;
  • Relevant technical skills to assess immune responses in health and disease;
  • Wide application of principles, theories and concepts in field of interest plus working knowledge of other related disciplines;
  • Excellent written, oral, and organizational skills;
  • (preferred) Experience in Biotech/Pharma, ideally with biologics-based therapeutics.

  • Self-motivated; with strong teamworking skills;
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to change, to move between projects easily and provide support and expertise where needed;
  • Practical and analytical abilities with high attention-to-detail as demonstrated through publications, past experiences and/or academic achievements.
